Something Fun

This aired a couple of weeks ago, and thankfully YouTube has it.

But the other stuff he has on YouTube is priceless. I think the following three clips are from 1969. America used to be a fun place. No way you could ever say these things on TV nowadays. Even better, if you are in to vintage Hollywood celebrities, look at how many A-listers there are in these videos.

Canadians Never Die

Nor do they apparently ever really go away.

Which is nice, eh?

The great 3-headed Canadian rock band of the '70s and '80s is once again alive and well with the announcement of Triumph's concert plans and possible tour.

During college I was a huge fan of all the great Canadian Bands: Triumph, April Wine, Loverboy, and to a lesser extent, Rush.

On my first VCR, a "beta" no less, I remember recording one of Triumph's concerts on the new music channel, MTV.

Man, I'm dating myself.

What I'd really love to see is all four bands together on stage in a sort of All-Star Canadian Rock Follies. Which of course will never happen.

Of the four, Triumph was my favorite when I was in the age range of 17-21. I think mainly because of Rik Emmett's guitar work.

But the band I have come to like more than the others as the years have gone by is April Wine.

Maybe it's the name. April Wine is definitely my favorite band name of all time.

Every track on the albums Harder...Faster and Nature Of The Beast is worth a listen. Actually they're worth multiple listens. Music that stands the test of time...well...stands the test of time, I guess.

I think it's the rich 3 guitar textures.

Triumph's news now means all four bands are now, or are planning to be, active in the next year. So as our Western culture continues to decline and die, at least...

We "got that going for [us]...which is nice."

Truth In Humor

Even though I love football, this is the most unspectacular, anticlimactic end to a season we could possibly have.

I was going to write about this in detail, but then I stumbled across this "article" from my favorite "newspaper", which is so dead-on funny that I have nothing else to say about the subject.

"This will be one to tell my kids about, that's for sure," Michael Strahan said. "If we can pull it off and almost beat these guys, they'll be showing those highlights until the end of time."

Quien Es Mas Macho?

Remember that classic SNL sketch with Bill Murray as the emcee of this game show?

"Bill Murray: Ooh es mas macho? Ricardo Montalban, orrr.... Desi Arnaz?

Guest: Ricardo Montalban?

Murray: Ay-yi-yi. Nexte questione!)"

Well, let's just change the game a little.

"Si. 'Quien Es Mas Loco?' Or 'Quien Es Mas Estupido?'"

Is it the idiots who think it's a good idea to bait their captive lion, or the morons who actually play tug of war with it?

Presidential Race

Tomorrow kicks off the 2008 election year.

Given that almost everyone in this country thinks we are on the wrong track, it would seem logical that we should elect the guy who's most different from everything coming out of this government we have voted ourselves.

Out of all the candidates in the race, there is only one guy out there who is obviously a different cat.

Vote for who you want, it's your right to do so, but unless you take a chance on a guy like Ron Paul, it's going to be more of the same for the next 4 to 8 years. It is not really going to matter who wins because all the other candidates will bend their principles and do what is expedient for themselves. And nothing will truly change for the better.

They're all, Democrat and Republican, interchangeable. But I don't think that's the case with Mr. Paul.

He is the only guy who seems to be marching to a different drummer. And I think he's actually got stones. I think he's the only chance to change the course we're on (humanly speaking, of course).

One Last 2008 Goal

I'm going to try to make my cursive much neater. My printing is fine, but when I'm in a hurry my cursive gets small and flat. I'm going to improve this by slowing down.

2008 Goals

I was up and down with 2007 in regards to the goals. Some I met, others hardly got off the ground. This year I am hoping to do better.

- In regards to my reading, I am going to spend more time studying instead of just reading. I am not putting any time constraints on my reading this year, because there were times when I would just read to keep up with my own arbitrary quota. So this year I will slow down on quantity but hopefully add quality. I was thinking of reading at least a chapter a day, but really studying it in more depth.

I am also going to read "A Summary Of Christian Doctrine" from cover to cover.

- Finish my terrace/retaining wall project and expand my vegetable garden. I also want to start indoors from seed all the plants that I planted from seed last year outdoors. Hopefully they will survive with a good start indoors. Start work on a fountain/pond. I doubt I will be able to complete this in 2008, however.

- Continue my exercise routine but add pull ups to it. I cannot start this part of my routine until I buy and install the bar, however, so I don't know when this will start.

- Start writing on a book idea I've had for a long time that I am amazed no one has done. And no, it has nothing to do with why I hate rugby. I am actually serious for once. Due to this, I may not blog as much as I have in the past.

That sounds about right. Deo volente.
