Tony's Last Season?

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't believe LaRussa will want to stick around.

The situation kind of reminds me of the movie, Excalibur. If you haven't seen it, it's a take on the King Arthur legends.

In the last half of the film, Merlin the Magician speaks the following to Morgana...
"
I have helped men - or meddled in their affairs, if you would have it that way- since the dawn of time. Now let them live by their own laws. Let them stand on their own feet. The gods of once are gone forever, it is time for men..."

It is such for old school baseball men like Tony. Their kind is vanishing. They neither understand the new ways, nor do I think they want to.

All you have to do is read this article by Bernie Miklasz to understand why he'll never sign on again.

And I don't even want to know what his departure will mean to Albert Pujols' St. Louis tenure.

  1. One of my all time favorite movies! Right up there with Time Bandits! Of course, I'm ignoring the baseball tie-in, but I'm married to an old school baseball guy.

  2. TK!

I didn't know that. I love both of those movies, but they are rarely on TV.
