NFL Picks Week 12

Finally a return to winning last week, with a satisfying 12-4. For the year, that made me 106-54. Two losses, Thursday and Monday, bookended a stellar 12-2 Sunday. Hoge is way out in front with 112 wins, Tom Jackson has 111, and then the rest of the field ranges from 102 to 109. These ESPN Experts are here and here.

Now so far this week I am 2-1 like most of the rest of the world. This week has a lot of mines in the field, as there are many games where injuries could play a role in the outcome, including Pittsburgh-Baltimore and Arizona-Tennessee. How 'bout them Titans, by the way? Arizona has no chance if Warner doesn't play, so I'm going with Tennessee.

I see no one has the Bears. No surprise. What is a surprise is how many people picked Houston over Indy.

Jacksonville-San Fran looks like a good match-up, I've got to go for the home team even though Jacksonville is looking better and better as the season progresses.

Of course, then there is the Monday Night game. This is probably one of the most anticipated games on Monday night since the Baltimore-New England match-up 2 years ago. A can't miss football game. I like New Orleans- they most likely won't go for it on 4th in their own territory.

This week will likely make or break my season. There's just a lot of toss-up games. If they break my way,
I'll be in contention. If not, I may be in last place.

Atlanta.
Miami.
Cincinnati.
St. Louis.
Jets.
Philadelphia.
Indianapolis.
San Diego.
San Francisco.
Minnesota.
Tennessee.
Baltimore.
New Orleans- Monday Night.

Weekend Reading

As you've already guessed, I haven't spent a lot of time reading this week, but rather I've been watching videos of Hee Haw and moonings. Now my humiliation is complete.

The Humiliation Is Almost Complete

Although the suffering is not yet legendary.

So, maybe the Bears aren't going to win the Super Bowl this year after all.

And maybe they won't even get there.

Okay, so maybe they aren't even going to make the playoffs.

Or even finish with a record over .500.

Alright, already- maybe they won't win another game this year. Happy now?

But is player de-pantsing really necessary? Thankfully I missed this the other night when it was live. The mere fact this video even exists is reason enough to declare this season a total failure.

Raiders Rule

Okay, the football team stinks, so one never hears those words anymore. But they broke out the retro uniforms again, and they are awesome. Best looking uniform, I think.

Dallas doesn't look to shabby, either. This was by far the best LOOKING game of the day. Photo credits to AP/Mike Stone.

Thanksgiving NFL Picks

Green Bay.
Dallas.
Giants.

I was actually going to be interested in the Detroit game if Stafford was playing, but he ain't, so it should be another garbage game. The Oakland-Dallas game might be interesting, but who picked these games for Thanksgiving?

Cool Guys

When I was growing up, Archie Campbell was my favorite. But since I've been watching reruns on RFD, I like Grandpa the best. He is even my favorite Culhane.

Of course, there is Junior...

I'm glad the DVR allows me watch this and Sunday Night Football.

For the year I am94-51.
I've totally lost hope in contending for 1st place, and am now ahead of only Allen and Ditka. Although there are still 7 weeks left, and I only have to make up a game a week. So maybe not. ESPN Experts picks and records here and here.

We've Had Some Strange Weather This Year

It never really got hot this summer. It rained more than I can ever remember. There were more cloudy days than sunny, I think.

That must explain, at least in some small way, why, despite a few good frosts, I still have flowers blooming.

These babies have been blooming since spring. The temperatures have more than once been in the upper twenties in the mornings this past week.

The daisies in the above photo never see sunlight anymore, as the shadow of the house keeps them in shade all day, as shown below in the picture of their bed. Only half of the daisies are getting sun, but they are all still blooming.

So is the weird weather the explanation as to why, on November 14th, I had butterflies, bees, and some weird metallic-green bug thing, on the world's most hardy daisies?

Are we or are we not just 11 days from Thanksgiving?

This might be the first year I catch a Christmas lightning bug.

All of these photos were taken yesterday.

I got such a kick out of the butterfly, I even took a short video of it. I call it "November Butterfly". Which would be a great song title or band name. I'd set it to music if I knew how.

NFL Week 10 Picks

I'm definitely in a slump right now. Last week was another 7-6 record. I've already lost the Thursday night game this week.

For the year I am 86-44.
I'm 5 games behind Tom Jackson for first place and only 5 games ahead of Ditka for last place. I've got to get it going again. ESPN Experts picks and records here and here.

We've now passed the half-way point of the season. Hard to believe. Snow and ice games will be starting soon, so weather will start to factor in to some games.

Now that every team has won a game, let's sit back and ponder what an amazing achievement last year's Lions squad pulled off. Going 0-16 may not happen again for a long time.

This week is the last bye week. I didn't notice last week that the Giants and Houston were the only teams left for a bye, so they're off this weekend.

Gee, I wonder who'll win the Saints-Rams game? That one's difficult.

Of course, then there's the annual Indy-New England game. This has become something of a mid-season tradition. Always fun to watch.

New Orleans.
Miami.
Minnesota.
Jets.
Tennessee.
Pittsburgh.
Denver.
Atlanta.
Oakland.
Arizona.
Dallas.
San Diego.
Indianapolis.
Baltimore- Monday Night.

Sunday, November 08, 2009

I'm coming off the worst week of the year at 7-6. For the year I am 79-37. I'm 3 games behind Tom Jackson. ESPN Experts picks and records here and here.

This is the last bye-week of the season. Congrats to the Rams for getting a victory. We're now down to Tampa Bay as the only win-less team. Seems like they might have accomplished the feat before, although not a 16 gamer.

Atlanta.
Chicago.
Baltimore.
Indianapolis.
New England.
Green Bay.
Jacksonville.
New Orleans.

Monday And Tuesday Reading

James.

After watching the Green Bay-Minnesota game Sunday, I think the Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy really loused that game up for them. I do think Minnesota is the better team, but Green Bay could have won that game if not for some questionable decisions by the coach in the 4th quarter. Oh well. The Bears have their own problems.

NFL Week 8 Picks

Last week I was 11-2. For the year I am 72-31. I'm now only two games out of first place, which is Schefter and Jackson, and now tied with Mort. ESPN Experts picks and records here and here.

I think St. Louis has a real chance at 0-16. I looked at the rest of their schedule, and today's game at Detroit is by far their best chance of victory. If they eke out a loss today, then the game at Tennessee may be their last chance. Could NFL winlessness happen two years in a row? I'm thinking it's 50-50 right now. At any rate, for the first time in a couple years I'm taking Detroit.

Obviously the big game this weekend is the Packers-Vikings match up. I'm betting Favre won't be well received. I look for Aaron Rodgers to have a big game.

For all the negativity coming out of Buffalo, I'm surprised to see them 3-4. You'd think they were 1-6 or something. Even though they're only 1-2 at home this year, I do think they'll win today. I'm going out on a limb here, I hope it doesn't break off too early in the day.

Almost forgot. The Bears look hapless. So much for the playoffs this year.

Buffalo.
Chicago.
Dallas.
Detroit.
Baltimore.
Indianapolis.
Jets.
Giants.
Tennessee.
San Diego.
Arizona.
Green Bay.
New Orleans- Monday Night.
