I Heard This Song Today

So I'm putting down a few thoughts, something I've not done in awhile.

I first saw this video just a few months before he died. I was flipping the clicker late one night and ran across it. Scared the crap out of me, especially when I realized who it was. I guess the video
won some awards.

The "album" it comes from is American IV, the last one released "pre-posthumously", so to speak, and is one of my favorites.

The last cut of this album is "We'll Meet Again". A particularly meaningful track considering it was the last song on the last album prior to his death. I think of that every time I listen to it.

  1. So many things...Johnny reminded me of my father, so rugged like a mountain, you would never thought he would fade away or die. I don't know if Johnny was saved - his beliefs weren't focused on Christ only as his savior. 'I hurt myself' speaks to real heartfelt regret to his past life's actions. I think every human experiences that, though Christ is our hope. I guess I would just dissolve in tears to hear "We'll meet again". The way Johnny sang always touched your heart. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. The appeal of Johnny is that you know he was a real man with a lot of flaws which he himself recognized. There justdoesn't seem to be any phoniness.

Who can discern the eternal fate of another?

  3. Since I know you are a rocker at heart :), you might like Johnny's version of Man in Black which he performed with Christian punk rock group One Bad Pig back in the early 90's. I can't find it anywhere online for free for you to hear it, though.

If you find it, link me up, I don't know that I've ever seen it.
