Saturday Reading

Job 37-42.

Regarding life and this week's weather, last weekend at this time there were 300 people walking this earth, probably having a good weekend, knowing not the fate that awaited them, that their time was about spent.

Friday Reading

Job 33-36.

Last night's episode of "The Office" was very good. Sorry to see Michael Scott fly away. It won't ever be the same, but the show can still be good as long as the others don't follow his lead.

And that Oscar-Scarecrow thing was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. At least on TV.

Haven't watched the Weather Channel this much in 10 years or more.

Wild, weird Spring weather.
It might scare even Noah.
Tornadoes abound.

Tuesday Reading

Job 21-24.

This Cardinals team seemed so intriguing back in February. Too bad Wainwright got hurt, they could really have been a contender considering how well they've played so far without him.

Monday Reading

Job 17-20.

Taking 2 of 3 from the Reds was a must, but it should have been 3 of 3. If it weren't for LaRussa's genius management of the 2nd game, it probably would have been. Franklin appears to be done, and the Cardinals should have at least 16 wins.

I have to confess I'm looking forward to Easter this year for more than the religious meaning. I've been off beef since Ash Wednesday and am ready to dig in tomorrow.

It's Good Friday. Nothing else to say today.

Wednesday Reading

Esther 6-10.

The theme song to Tennessee Tuxedo is permanently etched in my brain. Last year I got the DVD which contains many of the episodes from season 1, and probably reinforced this until my end comes.

So, after intense study, I have become convinced that the lyrics of the song by Phil Collins, "Sussudio", was taken from the opening of this theme song..."see, see, see, Tennessee Tuxedo."

"Su-su-su-dio"...the su su su part is obviously a nod to "see, see, see" in the Tennessee Tuxedo theme.

Agree?

Someone is paying attention to my blog. What timing.

Monday Reading

Nehemiah 10-13.

Four blown saves? It's April 18th FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Franklin would be out if anyone but LaRussa were managing.

Problem is there is no one to step up, is there? Unless you like the idea of a bullpen by committee.

Which right now I do.

Sunday Reading

Nehemiah 6-9.

Chris Duncan's rise and fall was about as fast as anyone's I've ever seen. He had big power before he got hurt and his career is probably now over. At least he appears to have something to fall back on now.

Saturday Reading

Nehemiah 2-5.

During this Cardinals road trip, a few games have started after 10 p.m., which means they are starting after 8 p.m. on the West coast. Why would they start a baseball game that late?

I'm going to have to complain more often about not scoring any runs, because they sure responded to my complaint this past week.

And how about those Indians?

Friday Reading

Ezra 9-10. Nehemiah 1.

One thing I have never understood is the size of coloring books. The pictures inside take a long time to color and the crayons subsequently disappear too quickly. So why make them so big?

Well, I've just recently seen a much smaller tablet form of coloring book that is much more conducive to completing the picture with little crayon wastage. How long have these been around?

I like to watch "Baseball's Golden Age". I love the historical color footage more than the stories themselves.

Wednesday Reading

Ezra 1-4.

Another sports milestone this year. Today is the 25th anniversary of the great final round Masters comeback by Jack Nicklaus. He was 46 years old at the time. Which makes me feel old, because I am now older than he was at the time of this comeback.

Things are erupting suddenly around the yard in the past couple of days, including daffodils, tulips and now phlox.

Wow. I didn't have any idea he was still around. Thought he retired 2 years ago.

Matt Holliday is coming back today. Just in time, as my finger is hovering over a button on my computer that says "PANIC".

Yesterday was Jim Rome's annual Smack Off. Since I had to work, unlike other clones, I missed listening live. But thankfully Burn Monkey Burn! has the whole thing posted.

Hyacinths and daffodils are erupted, but no redbuds or dogwoods yet?

Maybe they're waiting for the Cardinals to start scoring some runs.

You know you've watched The Masters too many times when you can identify the holes the players are on by sight.

Somehow I didn't post yesterday. I'll try not to let that happen again.

No words to describe what had to be the single worst championship game in the history of competition.

Except one that Sir Charles would use...TURRRIBLE.

I find 1 Chronicles hard to read, but 2 Chronicles is not as bad.
