Weekend Reading

4 Maccabees 18.

It's May and we're reaching the end of our assigned reading for the year.  Where to next?

Friday Reading And Running Out

4 Maccabees 17.

Despite St. Louis running out to a better start than I had hoped, it would have been nice if the rest of the NL Central were walking walking.  Unfortunately Pittsburgh and Cincinnati didn't get the memo.  They're only 2 1/2 games back of the Cardinals in spite of the all out sprint out of the blocks.

It may be one of those summers when each game seems critical and worthy of attention.  That would be fun.  Haven't had one of those in a long time.

This Week's Reading And The Finale

4 Maccabees 14-16.

It's been a busy week, so I didn't post much.  But I did find time to watch the end of "The Office."

Initially, I was thinking this is the lamest finale I've ever seen.  And then Michael showed up.  That was cool.

Monday Reading And Baseball Uni Contest

4 Maccabees 13.

ESPN is having another uniform contest, for MLB.  Cardinals seeded first.

But this will turn out like all other ESPN contests or internet polls, having nothing to do with who has the best  uniforms.  The teams with the most fans will win.  So look for Yankees-Cubs in the finals.

Weekend Reading

4 Maccabees 12.

Forget the Mini-Moos thing.  How about getting a scientist to construct a device to hold Frosted Flakes of Corn that doesn't allow flake breakage.  What can you do when you get to the bottom of the bag and there is nothing but messy, yet enticing, crumbage?

Thursday And Friday Reading

4 Maccabees 10 and 11.

Well, I woke up today and it's still true.  Mike Tyson is still getting his own cartoon with a magic tattoo and talking pigeon.

Salvador Dali lives.

Wednesday Reading And The New Bullpen

4 Maccabees 9.

I hope the bullpen is now stable.  It has sure settled down for the moment.  Mujica has racked up 9 saves in a short period of time.

Tuesday Reading And Rose

4 Maccabees 8.

Wouldn't it be great to see Derrick Rose come out and play in the Bulls-Heat series?  Even if he only plays a few minutes.  The NBA hasn't seen something like that since Willis Reed.

Now's the time, Rose.  I think the Bulls could steal it...if only he' play.

Monday Reading

4 Maccabees 7.

I believe it was at this time last year, 5-9-12, that the Cardinals were 20-11 and decided to lose 8 out of 10 games.  So I'm cautiously optimistic about this year's 20-11 record.  Not time to be excited yet.  Especially with the bats prone to go on ice at moments notice.

That said, I like the new look bullpen, with Martinez and Maness.

Weekend Reading

4 Maccabees 6.

I was thinking today.  Hard to believe, I know.  But I have favorite parts of the Divine Service.  And mine are the Gloria In Excelsis and the Nunc Dimittis.

Thursday And Friday Reading And Mini-Moos

4 Maccabees 4 and 5.

What is the deal with the Mini-Moos?  Those small circular packets of half&half from Land O' Lakes.

I defy someone to open one without spillage.  Drops of white liquid either squirt all over when you open one, or you get a little dribble on your fingers.

And why does that white liquid look like Liquid Paper?

Don't you think they could engineer these little things a little better?  How much pressure do they put these things under that they are compelled to explode when you release the top?

The producers must have contests to see how much pressure they can apply to one without the whole package exploding prior to use.

Maybe it's the the little plastic nib thing hanging off the cylinder where you peel back the foil.  Maybe it upsets the symmetry/balance of the container.

I've tried ripping them off quickly, or doing the slow peel, as if I'm sneaking up on it, trying not to awaken it.  But it never fails that some of it gets out.

So I've got advice for all budding scientists out there.  Forget developing alternative fuels or hybrid vehicles.  Forget the miracle drugs and cures.  Because as long as you can't even put together a non-exploding package of cream and milk, you ain't gonna make those other things, either.

Wednesday Reading And The Knicks

4 Maccabees 3.

I've always rooted for the Knicks, but there have been many years where they've been hard to like.  Game 5 was embarrassing.
