Does Anyone Else Find Stuff Like This A Little Disheartening?

Click here. (I promise it's not pornographic).

I ask you- does this look more like a church's website, or a social club's, or of that of a business?

Where's the law and gospel? It's definitely relegated to page two material. "The Church" has only one purpose, found in Matthew 28. I'm pretty sure "Build The Home, Change The World" is not one of the verses there. And why do churches now have slogans? (You don't really have to answer that).

And this is a "Lutheran" church, although that no longer means anything. But for those of you out there still LCMSers, here are your brothers and sisters. Rock on.

  1. I am always leary of Lutheran congregations that describe themselves as conservative. That's not the same as confessional. I think the word "conservative" is used to separate themselves from "confessionals". Besides, why are these "teachers" featured in the small group sessions: Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, Jay Dennis, Stormie Omartian, Max Lucado. Those Baptist teachers don't belong in confessional Lutheran Bible Studies, in my opinion.

I absolutely agree. Conservative is a cultural and social issue buzzword, where there is lots of common ground. Confessional is a doctrinal description.

    Generalizations alert:
-Strong on doctrine churches label themselves confessional. Weak on doctrine churches label themselves conservative.
    - Strong on doctrine churches focus on Christ's kingdom and the world to come. Weak on doctrine churches focus on this world and how we can impact it now.

If one is not confessional, conservative is a great word to use to "blend" in with the so-called Evangelicals.

And I wouldn't mind it if churches in this country would just teach the Bible in Bible classes. But I guess the Book just isn't "culturally relevant" sometimes.
