"I grew up listening to Jack Buck and Mike Shannon on KMOX."
ReplyDeleteAssuredly, a greater blessing one could not have. But I also count as a blessing growing up listening to Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau, thanks to my Cub fan older brother. They were always fun, especially because they'd wail at the Cubs' misfortunes. Things changed when Harry Caray came to town. The Cubs became more of a commercial entity, I believe.
"Even though I hate the Cardinals with every fiber of my being (I'm a Cub fan and native of southern Illinois), the Cardinals are a part of who I am as a human being."
If you substitute the word Cubs with the word Cardinals, and vice versa, I could make the same statement. In fact, maybe you are my brother and I don't realize it.
"Thanks for keeping us posted on the new stadium and the team. The Cardinals have a ballpark to be proud of, that's for certain."
I am stunned at the job they have done. It has turned out more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Only problem is it may take me years to get a ticket the way they've been selling out.
