Coming Full Circle

One of my earliest baseball memories is getting home one fall afternoon in 1968 in time to watch the Cardinals lose game 7 of the World Series. I was in kindergarten. I remember watching in disbelief as the last out of the game was made, a foul out down the first baseline. Bob Gibson lost the only game he would ever lose in the World Series that day. All the baseball I had ever known was wrapped up in the Cardinals being the best team, having won it all the year before. And now they were no longer the champions. I was almost 5 years old, and it made the world seem different to me. I don't remember crying about it, but it is possible that I did.

Now, it's the Cardinals turn to be underdogs. The time has come, after 38 years, to turn the tables on the Tigers.

Watch the World Series on Fox.

  1. Sometimes I wish I could watch without the commentators. I know the Quipper wants to post regarding this for his first place idiot of the week award so I'll not steal his thunder.

  2. Marie, I changed my mind, albeit slightly. Tim McCarver earned Honorable Mention in my Idiot of the Week post.

  3. By the end of the Cardinals-Mets series, they had definitely run out of things to say. Did you know that whoever won that last Cardinals-Mets game was going on to the World Series??? And that both teams had started workouts/practice back when all the other teams had, and now here two teams were, playing for a chance to go to the World Series?? I was soooooo glad they told me that.

  4. MarieN!

The NFL actually tried a game without announcers once. It was kinda weird.

    Quipper!

Glad to see that Cleveland's offensive genius has bit the dust. Idiot of the week is now wide open for the taking. See anything here you like?

    Barb!

These two teams, the two that are left, started practicing back in February. Which is a long time ago. Just so you know.
