Time Flies

Tonight is the 40th anniversary of the first broadcast of All In The Family. I was only 7 at the time, and as I recall there was a warning at the start of the first episodes.

I'm not sure because I was either not allowed to watch it at first, or it was on too late, or nobody else wanted to watch. I can't remember.

But that didn't last long, as its popularity quickly
soared.

There's a lot that's been said about this sitcom. But one thing is undeniable- it's one of the funniest shows in TV history.

And, in my opinion, the episode "Archie In The Cellar" is the single funniest episode in TV history. The whole episode is available on YouTube, of course.

It therefore makes sense that it contains, near its end, what I believe to be the single funniest moment in TV history as well. Since I first saw it, I've thought that, and haven't changed my mind in over 30 years.

From 1973, here's the last 6 minutes of that episode. The preceding scenes, found on YouTube and available for watching, which set up the premise of this scene, are hilarious as well.

Archie gets locked in his cellar, finds a bottle of Vodka, imbibes, gets drunk and believes he will die down there.

Enjoy!

  1. One of my favorite memories as a kid was watching the episode where Edith is going through menopause and tells Archie to stifle. My Mom had cancer and had really been struggling, and when that came on she laughed hysterically. It was a really funny episode and the joy it brought to our family that night was something I still think about now and then.

  2. Somebody's Mom!

That's a good episode. There's hardly a bad one in the first 4 seasons.

The reason I picked this episode was because it was very funny throughout and the end was the best. Too bad the embed no longer functions.
