My Hypothesis

Scholarship being my thing, I've given the following a lot of thought.

Al Davis, principal owner of the Oakland Raiders is a fan of Space Angel, the single greatest cartoon of all time.

How do I know? Davis obviously loves his Raiders. Now, check out the Raiders logo, which in my opinion is the coolest in all of football. But that is a subject for another post.

I read on Wikipedia that this was modeled after Scottius Maximus' distant cousin, Randolph Scott. But we all know sometimes Wikipedia is not a master of all the facts. And you'll soon see why.

Now, if you will please, turn your attention to my hero, Scott McCloud, a.k.a Space Angel.

Is there any doubt that the "Raider" in the logo is Space Angel, and not Randolph Scott? They just flipped his eye patch over from the left eye to the right.

It's all right there for those who have the courage to believe. Yep, Al Davis is a Space Angel fan.

By the way, Space Angels would be a great name for an expansion team.

You might think I'm crazy, but I believe history will prove me right.

So Long, We Hardly Knew Ye

Baseball has ended yet again. Which means much of what is now alive will die soon. Then comes the cold and gray of winter. It happens. A lot has happened since last February. Just think what the world was like back then and how far we've come.

Funny thing is, I missed the end. I watched quite a bit of first half football yesterday afternoon, jumping back and forth between Packers-Buccaneers and Chiefs-Broncos. Needless to say, I fell asleep. But when I woke up and clicked over to baseball, the game was already over. My heart sunk. Baseball was over. And I missed it.

A lot will happen before I see another game, and as more and more seasons pass, I begin to qualify that with if I ever see another game. None of us are getting any younger, and you never know when your time is up.

You think about such things when baseball season ends.

Wanna Feel Really Old?

Then keep readin'. You'll feel a cataract and a few blood vessels slam shut before I finish.

This has been a fun week. Nick at Nite ran a Cosby Show mini-marathon all last week, which we spent most nights watching. I'd forgotten how much I loved that show.

So I started doing a little reading about the show on Wikipedia and IMDB. I was stunned by the results of my research.

Did you know that the "girl", Sabrina LeBeauf, who played Sondra the oldest daughter, is now 50 years old? Yes, you saw that right- 50!!!

Did you know Lisa Bonet (Denise) is 40 and Malcolm Jamal Warner (Theo) is 38? And Tempestt Bledsoe (Vanessa) is 35?

Would you know this person?

That's 29 year old Rudy...errrrr...Keshia Knight Pulliam.

Even the little girl who played Olivia, Raven-Symone, is now 22.

There were many unique things about this show. Remember Kenny, who Rudy used to call "Buuuuuud", and his twisted 5 year old chauvinism. And Rudy's other friend Peter, who was plump and hardly spoke?

Or how about Bacon Burger Dogs?

And how great were the openings? The music and dancing was outstanding.

Every season had it's own unique intro. Well, except season 6 and season 7 were almost identical.

My favorite opening is definitely season 6 and 7, followed by season 2, season 3, season 4, season 5, season 1 and season 8.

YouTube has them all. But here's the link to my favorite.

NFL Week 4

Last week I was 13-3. For the year 34-13. ESPN experts here and here.

I've definitely got some opinions on some uniforms this year. I love Buffalo's throwback uniform and wish they'd just stick with it the rest of the year. Stay tuned.

There are now only 6 winless teams. The number did end up dropping quite a bit last week. But of the 6 teams left, I think 3 of them have a real shot at going 0-16. Detroit, St. Louis, and Kansas City.

On the state front, Ohio and Missouri both are winless at 0-6.

Cincinnati.
Tennessee.
Denver.
New Orleans.
Arizona.
Green Bay.
Carolina.
Jacksonville.
San Diego.
Buffalo.
Dallas.
Philadelphia.
Pittsburgh- Monday.

NFL Week 3

Last week was 10-5. This year's record stands at 21-10.

Still seems to be a chance for someone to run the table and go 0-16. The Rams look like the favorites, but don't count out the Chiefs. In fact, the whole state of Missouri is guaranteed to get single digits in wins this year. The only question is, how low can they go?

Of all the states with more than one team, what is the worst winning percentage ever produced? I don't know. I wish I still had a blog statistician to figure that one out. I had to let mine go due to budget constraints.

Detroit may have an outside shot. And don't think Cincinnati can't pull this off. Fact of the matter is, there are still 11 winless teams. The herd should thin a little, but not a lot, this week.

Atlanta.
Buffalo.
Chicago.
Tennessee.
Minnesota.
New England.
Giants.
Washington.
San Francisco.
Seattle.
Denver.
Philadelphia.
Indianapolis.
Baltimore.
Dallas.
San Diego- Monday.

Time Out

I'm taking a brief break today from the usual light-heartedness of this blog.

You have to take the time to listen to Brigitte Gabriel expound upon Western Civilization's ongoing, centuries old war with Islam, on Issues, Etc. from Wednesday.

NFL Week 2

Last week's 11-5 start was the best I have had in years. Probably due for a let down this week. The Bears surprised me last week, but I am not prepared to get my hopes up yet. This new RB looks intriguing, though.

The Rams stink badly. They may be the only team that has the potential to run the table for an 0-16 this year. The Dolphins look a lot better and are no longer in contention. After being of the opinion that the Raiders are improved before the season started, I've got to say, if they perform like last week, they could be contenders to run the table.

The real shocker to me was how good the Broncos looked, and now that the AFC is wide open, they might have a shot also. That, and how all the rats deserted the Patriots ship before it had even sunk. I'd like to wait to see how this Cassel guy performs before declaring them dead. They did win 18 games last year.

Tennessee.
Green Bay.
Kansas City.
Giants.
Indianapolis.
New Orleans.
Carolina.
Jacksonville.
Seattle.
Tampa Bay.
New England.
Arizona.
Denver.
Cleveland.
Dallas- Monday.

September 10, 1974

Where were you and what were you doing?

I was listening to Jack Buck describe this, as I had all summer. Which just happens to be #7 on the list of the greatest moments at Old Busch Stadium.

I used to think his name was "Blue" Brock, not Lou Brock, when I was a wee lad.

Headline Of The Year

"Success! The world hasn't ended"

Really? Boy, this was a super day- I didn't read my obituary in the paper today, either.

Reformed Dudes

My favorite Reformed speaker and Christian apologist, Dr. R.C. Sproul, was on the White Horse Inn show with Michael Horton. They speak on the same topics bantered about Lutheran circles, such as Issues, Etc, so it's kind of interesting to see others lament the state of American Christianity in the same way. Worth a look if you have the time. Hat tip Ligonier blog.

NFL Week 1

Like last year's Pats, there's a lot of buzz about me going undefeated this year. Or not.

So far so good, though. I'm 1-0.

This first week is always the hardest because of all the newness around the league. You never really know what anyone's got for at least 2-3 weeks.

Detroit.
Buffalo.
Tennessee.
Jets.
New England.
New Orleans.
Philadelphia.
Pittsburgh.
Cincinnati.
San Diego.
Arizona.
Dallas.
Indianapolis.
Green Bay.
Oakland.

Can You Feel It In The Air This Morning?

You know what I'm talking about, don't you know?

Wow, I haven't felt this much energy in a long time.

I can sense it among everyone I've been in contact with today. Something's different.

I didn't think something like this could have this kind of effect on people, but I guess it has. I didn't know people cared this much anymore.

I'll just come out and state the obvious.

Football is back tonight, baby!

And I've got the Giants in the opener.

Sorry

A lot of people don't get it. This movie, one of my favorites, is priceless camp, and I just had to post this. 'Cause I just felt like it.

And, of course, there's the climactic final fight scene!

Love the music. What a riot!
