NFL Picks Week 16

Last week I had a 9-7 record, so several games surprised me. For the year I'm 135-89 heading into this week.

My goals for the final 2 weeks of the season are to stay below 100 losses, stay in front of Wickersham, Allen and Schefter, and catch Keyshawn, Chris Carter and maybe Schlereth. Go here and here for ESPN Expert picks and records.

Which should make it interesting, because I'm picking a couple of upsets today. I'm going with Detroit and Denver this week, two teams with a combined 7-21 record. Lions are getting better and better, and I want to root for Tebow, so I'm picking Denver.

I'm not a fan of the season ending so late. Used to be the playoffs started around Christmas. Now the seasons isn't over until after New Year's, and the Super Bowl is in February. Why?

Last Monday Night game of the year is a good one. Last week's ended pretty good. Bears have themselves positioned for a #2 seed, they just have to win the next 2 weeks and it's theirs.

Which is huge, because the Eagles are the team that could stop them. Not only would the Bears not get a bye if they don't finish #2, but they would also have to go to Philly to play if they won the Wildcard game.

The Eagles last 2 games are at home and they should be heavily favored in both (Vikings this week and Cowboys next week).

So the Bears game today against the Jets is very important. The Jets are also fighting for a playoff berth, so they need this game. Should be good.

I'm betting the Bears wish they had the Redskins game (week 7) back again.

The Rams have an outside shot at the playoffs, but need wins these last 2 weeks as well.

Indianapolis-Oakland should be an intriguing late game .

New England.
Chicago.
Baltimore.
Kansas City.
St. Louis.
Detroit.
Jacksonville.
Indianapolis.
Denver.
San Diego.
Green Bay.
Tampa Bay.

NFL Picks Week 15

Last week was 10-6, so I'm 126-82 on the year heading into Thursday. After starting out so slow, I'm actually pleased with it, even though I trail all but 4 of the ESPN Experts.

I'm hoping the Bears will rebound with a win in the cold. It's been a long time since we've seen an outdoor game at Minnesota, which is too bad. I have great memories of watching games played outdoors there, all from the comfort of my home.

I expect to do worse these final 3 weeks, as the teams eliminated will play their back-ups in an effort to gain them experience and see how well they will perform, and the teams secure in the playoffs will play their back-ups to rest their starters. So who knows what will happen?

I must think that I do...or I wouldn't even attempt these posts.

Difficult picks this week, a lot of toss up games.

By the way, don't you think the 49ers-Chargers game Thursday was the most visually appealing game of the year? Great uniforms. The only thing that could have made these teams look better is if it had been played in snow. Go here for photos if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Cleveland.
Dallas.
Houston.
Indianapolis.
Kansas City.
Miami.
Tampa Bay.
Arizona.
Baltimore.
Giants.
Atlanta.
Pittsburgh.
Oakland.
New England.
Chicago- Monday Night.

I Simply Remember My Favorite Things

As Julie Andrews once warbled.

Here's two of my favorites in one video...it's Sammy Hagar singing a Led Zeppelin montage. Doesn't get much better than this.

Don't know if Julie ever sang this...probably 50-50.

NFL Picks Week 14

Last week's 12-4 made my season record 116-76. Last year after 13 weeks my record was 131-61. At least I don't feel clueless like at the beginning of the season.

ESPN Experts here and here. I'm only ahead of 3 people now, and tied with Ditka. At least I'm not in last.

I don't know what the weather will be like in Chicago today, but it might be a bit frosty. I really think this favors the Bears. But I'm having a hard time trying to pick them over New England. The Patriots just look too good. And until writing this post, I was going to pick them.

But it's not about thinking. Sometimes you go with your gut.

And end up 116-76.

Anyway, Go Bears. I'm all in on this one.

Cleveland.
Pittsburgh.
Green Bay.
Tampa Bay.
Atlanta.
Jacksonville.
San Francisco.
New Orleans.
Jets.
Denver.
San Diego.
Chicago.
Philadelphia.
Minnesota.
Baltimore- Monday Night.

NFL Picks Week 13

I really fizzled out last week after a hot start, finishing 11-5. So I was 104-72 on the year heading into the week. ESPN Experts here and here.

The Bears took a giant step forward last week, so I'm fearful of them falling down this week. The Lions are still a year or two from being good, so I think they'll pull through.

The Rams seem to be getting stronger as the year goes on. They look like the favorites in the NFC West. I know, that is not saying much. But the Rams have to be very thankful they picked Sam Bradford first in the last draft. He has been sensational. That team is one to watch next year, and as they continue to mature this season, could be an upset pick come playoff time this year.

Usually I try to ignore the northeast slant of ESPN, but this Monday's game is clearly the best match-up on Monday Night Football this season. The Jets are definitely the funnest team around.

Which means the game will probably be a blowout and not worth the time.

New Orleans.
Chicago.
Green Bay.
Jacksonville.
Kansas City.
Miami.
Minnesota.
Giants.
San Diego.
Seattle.
Atlanta.
St. Louis.
Indianapolis.
Baltimore.
New England- Monday Night.
